The "hot and humid" weather in May could be eased by "more frequent" thunderstorms compared to the past few months, the state weather bureau said Sunday.

The easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific will sweep over the country on Sunday, but localized thunderstorms may be experienced in the afternoon or evening, said PAGASA weather forecaster Joey Figuracion.

"Nasa dry and hot season pa rin po tayo so asahan po natin na mas mainit talaga... Until May po ito. But asahan natin na mas frequent na sa buwan ng May ang mga tinatawag nating thunderstorms," he told radio DZMM.

(We're still in the dry and hot season, let's expect that it will get hotter until May. But we should also expect more frequent thunderstorms.

Temperatures will range from 27 to 35 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila, 16 to 25 degrees Celsius in Baguio, 23 to 31 degrees Celsius in Tagaytay, 26 to 34 degrees Celsius in Cebu and 26 to 33 degrees Celsius in Davao, Figuracion said.

No weather disturbance is expected to form over Philippine waters in the next 48 hours, he added.
