MANILA - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday urged malls to close its vehicle entrances along EDSA to ease traffic during the holiday rush.

"Nakikiusap po kami na sana naman tulungan kami ng mall operators na i-manage na rin yung traffic sa loob nila at sana hindi na hintayin ang pakiusap namin na isarado," MMDA traffic CHIEF Bong Nebrija told DZMM.

At least 17 malls are located along EDSA, which runs from Caloocan City to Pasay City, the MMDA earlier said. Entry points for these malls have been a common source of gridlocks, it added.

The MMDA earlier suggested to start mall hours by 11 a.m., and the deliveries of goods by 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. to "reduce the volume of delivery trucks."
