CEBU CITY – A man in Cebu City has no legs, but he doesn't let his disability stop him from serving his community.

Fifty-eight year old Magdaleno Borces, a traffic aide for a private school in Cebu City, works from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Everyday, he dons a traffic aide's vest, and armed with a whistle and a reflective glove, manages traffic along F. Cabahug Street.

He finds joy in helping motorists, Borces said, and does not mind the pay—he only gets a P300 honorarium every week from his employer.

He travels to and from work using an improvised bicycle, which he propels forward using his arms. He lives alone, because though he has relatives around, he said he prefers to have his own place.

As long as he is healthy, Borces said he will continue being a traffic aide, because he prefers earning a living to staying home and waiting for his family to provide him with food and money.
