MANILA – Filipina Olympian Sam Catantan will be taking a break from fencing after sustaining another anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The fencer announced the development Monday (Manila time) in an Instagram post while keeping hopes up that she will be returning on the strip again.

"Unfortunately, I re-tore my ACL and need to take some time off the strip again," Catantan said. "Despite this, I feel beyond blessed and grateful for all His grace. I know I can do it and I will do it again."

Catantan previously suffered an ACL injury back in May 2023 during the Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where she settled for silver in semifinals of the women's foil.

It took several months to get into shape again and later on qualified for the Summer Games after winning at the Asia Oceania Zonal Olympic Qualifiers 2024 in Dubai.
