Paris 2024: Joanie Delgaco out of medal contention after 6th place finish in q'finals

(UPDATED) Joanie Delgaco's hopes of winning a medal in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games have now come to an end.

This, after the Filipina rower placed sixth in the Games' women's singles sculls quarterfinals on Tuesday (Manila time.)

She finished with a time of 7:58.30 in the third quarterfinals and is now relegated to the semifinals C/D, the placement races.

Advancing from their group are New Zealand’s Emma Twig (7:26.89), Switzerland’s Aurelia-Maxima Katharina (7:31.12), and Spain’s Virginia Diaz Rivas (7:34.01).

In quarterfinal 1, Australia's Tara Rigney placed first with 7:58:30 and was able to clinch the first semis ticket.

Joining her in the semis are USA's Kara Kohler and Bulgaria's Desislava Angelova.

In quarters 2, the Netherlands' Karolien Florijn (7:29.07), Germany's Alexandra Foester (7:30:98), and Belarus' Tatsiana Klimovich (7:34.30) advanced. 

Completing the semis cast are quarterfinals 4 winners Viktorija Senkute (7:33.35), Uzbekistan’s Anna Prakaten (7:35.91), and Austria’s Magdalena Lobnig (7:44.03)

Delgaco, who is the first female rower from the Philippines in the Olympic Games, qualified for the quarterfinals after she topped the repechage heat with 7:55:00 last Sunday.

Before this, the 26-year-old placed fourth in the qualifiers with 7:56:26 and just fell short of earning an outright quarters spot.
