(UPDATED) Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco has made history in the 2024 Paris Olympics after advancing to the quarterfinals of the women's single sculls, Sunday at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.

Delgaco topped her repechage heat with a time of 7:55.00 to ensure that she will finish in the top 24 in her very first Olympic stint.

Following Delgaco is Vietnam's Pham Thi Hue with a time of 8:00.97; she also advances to the quarterfinals. Only the top two in each repechage heat will move on to the quarters, joining the outright qualifiers from Saturday's heats.

It's another milestone for the 26-year-old Delgaco, who is the first female rower from the Philippines to compete in an Olympic Games. She just missed out on an automatic quarterfinal berth in the heats, finishing fourth with a time of 7:56.26.

Following the two Southeast Asian rowers were Cuba's Yariulvis Cobas Garcia (8:10.64), Nicaragua's Evidelia Gonzalez Jarquin (8:26.23), and Togo's Akoko Komlanvi (8:43.11). They will advance to the semifinal E/F which are placement races.
