MANILA -- Tim Cone and the executives of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas have a goal for the national basketball team but they stressed that it will be a long and tough road to get there.

"We have a vision, we have a goal in mind. Now it's all about the process of how we get there. The day-to-day, every day," Cone told reporters on Monday, before leading Gilas Pilipinas in an open practice at the PhilSports Arena.

Cone was joined in the press conference by SBP President Al Panlilio and Executive Director Erika Dy.

"As a federation, we always want to improve. Not only in 5-on-5, but all the other disciplines. Five-on-five men's, women's, 3x3 men's, women's, youth," said Panlilio.

"[It's] exciting times for the program. A lot of things to look forward to. Of course, if we can keep this set of players together in the next four years, that's the objective, and see how we progress every tournament that we compete in," he added.

Cone was named the permanent head coach of Gilas last month and the multi-titled mentor put together a roster of 12 players that he hopes will form the core of the national team for the next four years.

A bulk of those players were present at ULTRA on Monday night, where they ran through some sets in preparation for their FIBA Asia Cup qualifying games against Hong Kong and Chinese Taipei later this week.

Cone acknowledged that the long-term goal for Gilas Pilipinas is to make it to the Olympic Games -- hopefully in Paris later this year, or in Los Angeles in 2028. But it's a goal that is far ahead in the future and he stressed that their focus is on "what it's gonna take to get us there."
