MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Petro Gazz is off to a strong start in the 2024-25 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

The Angels, despite giving away the extended second set, pushed back Choco Mucho in four frames, 25-20, 26-28, 25-21, 25-16, on Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Leading the charge was reigning PVL All-Filipino MVP Brooke Van Sickle, who fired 34 points anchored on 28 attacks, four aces, and two blocks.

"I feel like we just wanted to come out with that grit and with that fire. I feel like, especially with the last conference, let’s just leave it all out there and I’m super proud of the team," said the Filipino-American star about their sweet beginning during the postgame press conference.

"I’m proud of literally everyone, literally everyone. Everyone did a fantastic job today, the energy was great, and this was a very good start."

Fellow aces Jonah Sabete and Aiza Pontillas also came out strong, adding 18 points each, while captain Remy Palma also had 10.

Holding a 2-1 lead entering the fourth frame, Van Sickle and company cruised to a 22-11 lead and never looked back.

Sisi Rondina, another PVL All-Filipino MVP, paced the losing Choco Mucho side with a quiet 18-point showing.

Petro Gazz will face PVL powerhouse Creamline next, slated on Saturday, while Choco Mucho could bounce back as it takes on Galeries on Thursday.
