MANILA, Philippines – Julia Coronel, the 2024 PVL Rookie Draft third overall pick, hopes to carve her own legacy in professional volleyball.

The young setter, and apparently an opposite spiker as well, shared Saturday her aspirations as she made her PVL debut against Akari at the PhilSports Arena.

"I’m very hopeful naman na I will also get to make my own legacy. Like, I'm patiently waiting. I'm also, of course, working really hard to make that happen," said Coronel, armed with lessons from the Alas Pilipinas and La Salle programs.

Coronel played two roles in that match, highlighting her versatility as a volleyball player. She bared that they have been practicing that adjustment internally.

The Highrisers, however, started on the wrong footing as they absorbed a 30-28, 15-25, 16-25, 23-25, at the hands of the Chargers.

"Well, 'yung mga adjustments naman na 'yun kasi pina-practice din naman talaga namin. And sinabi ko rin talaga kina coach na kung kailangan nila akong spiker, willing naman din ako," said Coronel.

The De La Salle University product believes that she could also contribute in the attacking department.

The 23-year-old chipped in eight points and logged nine excellent sets for Galeries tonight.

"Kasi I know that I'm also able to deliver in that department. Siyempre ayoko naman maging selfish, parang nire-ready ko lang din sarili ko na anytime na hugutin ako ni coach, gawin niya akong attacker also."

Coronel was just happy that she was able to play her first PVL match. Among others, she was sidelined last conference because of national team commitments.

"Very happy ako na nakapag-debut na ako, first game ko in the PVL. Mindset ko lang din talaga coming into this game is I'm just going to play. Ilalabas ko lang lahat ng inensayo namin."
