Tots Carlos grateful for title as PSA's "Ms. Volleyball"

MANILA – The winningest club in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) is gearing up to continue its dominance.

The PVL All-Filipino defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers are prepared to give their best as they try to keep their hands at the crown, said the Philippine Sportswriters Association's "Ms. Volleyball" Diana Mae "Tots" Carlos.

"We're working on the system and the team, so 'yun din 'yung lagi naming sinasabi na we're just always ready to give our best every game and we're always ready to play our hearts out for the people, for the fans, sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa amin," the former University of the Philippines (UP) standout said on the red carpet of the PSA's Annual Awards Night on Monday at the Diamond Hotel.

The multi-titled spiker did not take all the glory as she gave credit to her teammates, management, and fans for the accolades.

Carlos won the Most Valuable Player trophy thrice in the PVL (2022 Open Conference, 2022 Invitational, and 2023 All-Filipino), and last month she was named Finals MVP as Creamline won in the Second All-Filipino championship series against Choco Mucho.

"Grateful ako palagi sa lahat ng recognitions na natatanggap ng team, natatanggap ng bawat isa sa amin. Masaya lang din ako na kasama ko silang naglalaro," Carlos said.

"Champion players, champion team, ako lagi kong sinasabi, kine-credit na 'di ako nandito kung nasaan ako kung 'di dahil sa mga teammates ko and mga taong bumubuo sa team," she added.

Since its inception in the PVL in 2017, Creamline has not fallen to a podium-less finish and has won the ring seven times.

They fell short of a grand slam in 2023 after bowing to Japanese squad Kurashiki Ablaze in the Invitational finals.

The Cool Smashers will enter the All-Filipino Conference on February 20 on a high note as they try to repeat their triumphant campaign in 2023.

"Thankful kami for the success ng Creamline last year. And we're very happy na na-recognize si Tots as Ms. Volleyball," Michele Gumabao said of her teammate.

Creamline captain Alyssa Valdez, who was also repeatedly named "Ms. Volleyball" by the country's oldest media organization, also hopes that Carlos will retain the title.

"I'm very proud of her. It's always such an honor to be alongside amazing women like Tots na representing the country very well. I really cannot wait to see her grow more and improve her skills more and to be Ms. Volleyball for the longest time as well," Valdez said.
