MANILA, Philippines — Jeron Teng concluded his glittering UAAP career on a high note as he was named Finals MVP after leading the De La Salle Green Archers to the Season 79 championship at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

Teng powered the Green Archers to a 79-72 victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles in the title-clinching game. In the best-of-three series opener last Saturday, he provided the late-game heroics that lifted La Salle past Ateneo 67-65.

It was Teng's second UAAP championship, having also led La Salle to the Season 76 title.

The graduating forward was on fire from the get-go on Wednesday, scoring 10 points in the first quarter to set the tone for La Salle.

He had 19 points in the first half and finished with 28 in a stellar effort. His assist to Ben Mbala for the lay-up proved to be crucial as it put the game out of reach.

"Right from the start pa lang, gusto ko na ibigay 'yung best ko talaga," said Teng. "Ito na 'yung last game ko, so I wanted to give my all for La Salle."

Teng, who was also the Finals MVP in La Salle's Season 76 campaign, said the award was just a bonus.

"Siguro reward na lang 'yun, blessing na lang 'yun," he said. "From the very beginning, even before the UAAP started, I only had one goal, and that's to win the championship."

Teng finished his UAAP career with four Mythical Five selections, a Rookie of the Year award, two championships and two Finals MVP awards.

He said he will first celebrate the championship after what has been a tough season, before taking the next step in his basketball career.

"I have to join the D-League already in January," said Teng, who says he most likely join the D-League Draft on December 20.
