SUBIC—Michael Comaling delivered a golden performance for the Philippines in men's beach triathlon individual in the modern pentathlon competition in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games on Friday.

Comaling, 19, of Ormoc City, clocked 17 minutes and 8.87 seconds to outpace second placer Phurit Yohuang of Thailand (17:19.83) and Muhammad Taufik of Indonesia (17:37.76).

"Kahit nag-penalty ako, stay focus sa game. Stay positive," Comaling said.

He bounced back from a disappointing loss in the men's beach laser individual Thursday, where he placed seventh.

"Actually, kaya namang ipanalo 'yung laban kahapon pero hindi ako kumain. And I learned my lesson sa mga coach na nag-inspire sa'kin na today, learn from it, forget the past and focus on today. That's why kumain nang marami and ngayon gave me energy to win," Comaling said.

Meanwhile, Princess Honey Arbilon settled for bronze in the women's beach triathlon, registering 21:29.36.

Arbilon said she lost focus in shooting but was able to find her groove back just in time to secure a podium finish.

"Relax lang for 3 rounds and sa last dun talaga ako bumuhos, at sa cheer na rin," the 17-year-old athlete said.
