MANILA, Philippines – There will be no disciplinary actions taken against the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons after Game 1 of the UAAP Season 81 men's basketball finals.

This, according to UAAP commissioner Junel Baculi.

The Blue Eagles claimed a hard-earned 88-79 win over UP in Game 1 on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena, behind a career-high 27-points from Matt Nieto and a near triple-double from Thirdy Ravena.

However, the game was also marked with several controversial incidents, particularly the one that occurred between Ateneo center Angelo Kouame and UP counterpart Bright Akhuetie with over six minutes left in the third quarter.

Kouame was battling position for with Akhuetie when he gave the UP center a slight nudge that caused him to collapse to the court. Replays showed that Akhuetie planted his foot wrong, and their legs got entangled as Kouame looked to move to the top of the key.

Akhuetie needed to be stretchered back to the UP dugout, but eventually returned with seven minutes left in the game. He was initially diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee.

In a text message, Baculi answered "none" when asked if there will be any disciplinary actions following Game 1.

Asked specifically about the incident between Kouame and Akhuetie, Baculi further said: "None."

"There was no intent to hurt," he added.

A source from Ateneo confirmed that they received no memorandum indicating any sanction on Kouame or any other player.

Game 2 of the series is on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum, with the Blue Eagles looking to secure a second straight UAAP title.
