MANILA, Philippines — Stanley Pringle scored 24 points on an efficient shooting night as GlobalPort staved off a second-half rally by Star to win 91-84 in the Philippine Basketball Association at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

Pringle shot 10 of 15 from the field for the Batang Pier, who built a 21-point lead in the first quarter only to see it dwindle to single digits after the break.

The win enabled GlobalPort (2-0) to share the top of the standings with Rain or Shine.

Terrence Romeo, whose partnership with Pringle has given GlobalPort a legitimate 1-2 punch, chipped in 18 points.

"We were able to dictate the pace of the game," GlobalPort coach Franz Pumaren said.

"We're putting emphasis on team defense. Everybody's embracing their respective roles. It's still an early gauge for us. The real test will be in the coming few games.

"This will be a great springboard for us."
