MANILA -- Collegiate stars Cherry Rondina of University of Santo Tomas (UST) and Isa Molde of University of the Philippines (UP) spearheaded Team Palaban’s 25-21, 25-19, 15-25, 25-22, win over the Alyssa Valdez-led Team Puso Sunday in the 2016 V-League All-Star Game at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Tigresses' open spiker, who wowed the crowd not just with her power hits but also by her tumbling talents before her services during the exhibition match, finished with 13 points built on 11 attacks and had 12 digs for Team Palaban, coached by Open and Reinforced Conference champion Pocari Sweat mentor Rommel Abella with UST's Kungfu Reyes and UP's Jerry Yee.

Molde, the Collegiate Conference 1st Best Outside Spiker, scored 10 points all from attacks for Team Palaban, which had 51 total kills, nine blocks and 13 aces.

Bali Pure middle Amy Ahomiro had 12 points as the former Ateneo de Manila University star played alongside ex-De La Salle University and current Pocari Sweat pillars Michele Gumabao and libero Melissa Gohing for Team Palaban.

The proceeds of the game will be donated to the victims of Super Typhoon Lawin through ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Operation Sagip.

“Masaya sobra kasi kahit through our skills na binigay ni God nakakatulong kami,” said Rondina, who helped UST finish fourth in the Reinforced Conference.

Jocemer Tapic of Philippine Air Force led Team Puso with 14 points while Bureau of Customs superstar Valdez smashed nine kills for her total of 12 markers.

“Sobrang saya kasi ang daming tumulong, ang daming tao, saka volleyball players from Ate Wendy (Semana) to the youngest, Sisi, mga taga-UST,” said Valdez, who owns the record for most numbers of Conference MVP in the league with three after copping the Reinforced Conference honor.

“Parang ang sarap sa pakiramdam na nagkakaisa tayo para sa mga Pilipino na nabiktima ng Typhoon Lawin at gusto natin sila mapasaya sa Pasko,” she added.

Before the All-Star Game, fans were given a chance for autograph signing and have their photos taken with the players. Four signed volleyballs were up for auction after the event.

Other members of Team Palaban were Ateneo setter Jia Morado, Diana Carlos and Marianne Buitre of UP, Ria Meneses of UST and Pocari Sweat’s Myla Pablo and Gyzelle Sy.

Valdez and Tapic were joined by Bali Pure’s Dzi Gervacio and Denden Lazaro, Laoag’s Jema Galanza and Wenneth Eulalio, Air Force’s Semana, UST’s EJ Laure, Pocari Sweat’s Elaine Kasilag, BoC’s Fenela Emnas and Nicole Tiamzon of UP. Air Force coach Jasper Jimenez and Nes Pamilar called the shots for Team Puso.
