Despite being happy with his squad's fierce and sassy performance, University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe head coach Mark Chaiwalla had a little regret upon seeing the scoresheets of the UAAP Season 81 cheerdance competition where his team lost by just half a point.

The Salinggawi Dance Troupe's Beyonce-inspired routine was not enough for a podium finish, settling for fourth place with 638 points, just 0.5 short of the third placer Adamson Pep Squad's 638.5 points.

"I'm really happy with the performance. What just bothers me right now is nung nakita ko yung score sheet. Just 0.5 difference to get into the podium. Alam mo yung mga errors nila kanina, very kayang kaya nila yun eh, but it happened and just one point lang na nadagdag sa score it could have spelled the difference of the podium finish so sayang," Chaiwalla said.

The viral coach lamented the errors UST committed during the performance which doomed their chances of securing a place in the podium. Salinggawi accumulated 10 deduction points which could have been a 648 total points for bronze.

"Siguro a podium finish would be just a bonus na lang talaga. It’s just that ako sabi ko, mas tanggap ko, mas mabilis kong matatanggap kung 30 points yung difference. Pero 0.5, my God," he said.

Chaiwalla said his squad should learn their lesson -- to minimize errors and improve more to avenge their shortcoming in Season 81.

"Medyo nasayangan lang talaga ako kasi 0.5 because of very avoidable errors naman. Oh well, it happens, it’s the nature of the sport. What happened served as a reminder for us that we really still have a lot of things to improve on. Next year, no more errors," Chaiwalla said.

Despite the loss, Chaiwalla is overwhelmed with the pouring support of the Thomasian community and the netizens to the Salinggawi Dance Troupe. #DivaSantoTomas trended for quite a while during the duration of the competition.

"I'm thankful because this routine, we're not just doing this for ourselves, it is for the people who continue to support us. We're doing it for the Thomasian community and the fact that they've really liked what we've prepared for them that is a really big consolation for us," Chaiwalla added.

The head coach of the winningest team in UAAP cheerdance history also denied that his team was too disappointed with the result but admitted they were visibly sad.

According to him, a podium finish would mean something to his squad but regardless of the sadness and disappointment they are feeling, the team has to accept the result.

Chaiwalla then revealed he is seeing themselves to the National University's experience from last year. "We're much hungrier, we're gonna make sure, we're really gonna make sure."
