MANILA – Peaking at the right time, the Bureau of Customs Transformers and Bali Pure Water Defenders are gearing up for the playoffs of the season-ending reinforced conference of Shakey’s V-League with still two games left in their elimination cards.

Already assured of semifinal berths, the Transformers and the Water Defenders will face Philippine Air Force and Pocari Sweat, respectively, armed with stronger chemistry gained from their recent games.

"We've sorted out our chemistry issues by making sure we have communication in and out of the court," said Bali Pure team captain Charo Soriano. "Because of that, we're improving every game and hopefully we'll be a better team come the semis and hopefully the finals.”

Bali Pure and Customs join thw two other semifinalists University Santo Tomas (5-1) and Pocari Sweat (4-1).

After an upset loss from UST in their debut game, Bali Pure romped to four consecutive victories, including a straight sets win over Team Laoag last Wednesday, 25-21, 26-24, 25-13.

Meanwhile, the Alyssa Valdez-backed Customs managed to clinch a playoff ticket after racking up four wins in six outings. Bali Pure and Pocari were the two teams that dealt losses to the Transformers in the tournament.

For Transformers coach Sherwin Meneses, floor defense will play a vital factor as the team bids for a championship berth. "Never mind the difficult ones, but if we can get the easy balls, we'll have a strong chance," said Meneses.

Customs will be leaning on their troika of Valdez and Thai reinforcements Kanjana Kuthaisong and Nathanicha Jaisaen but will also need help at the back from Fenela Emnas, who was converted from setter to libero.

"Before, we used to have only one libero (Jonalyn Ibisa); now we have two," said Meneses.

The Final four rankings will be determined next week with the No. 1 clashing with the No. 4 and the Nos. 2 and 3 teams slugging it out in a best-of-three playoffs.
