MANILA, Philippines – Former De La Salle University star Jeron Teng is not putting too much stock on when he will be picked in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft.

The two-time UAAP champion will likely be one of the first players to be selected when teams converge at the Robinsons Place Magnolia for the annual Rookie Draft. After all, Teng has proven that he is ready for the professional ranks with a pair of superb conferences in the D-League.

However, the former King Archer said he is not too worried about that.

"For me, it doesn't matter kung pang-ilan ako ma-pick," says Teng.

All that matters to him is that he is selected by a team and gets to play in the league, thus fulfilling a childhood dream.

"Ever since I started basketball, it's always my dream to follow my father's footsteps," said Teng, referring to his father Alvin, who played for 14 seasons in the PBA.

"I'm just really excited to enter the league," he added. "Any team will do, basta mabigyan lang ako ng chance to play in the PBA."

Teng struggled somewhat in Day 1 of the Draft Combine, as he barely made a dent in the anthropometric drills conducted in the morning. In their first game of the scrimmages, he only put up 10 points for Team B-3, often forcing up shots against the aggressive defense of their foes.

He got his rhythm in their second game, however. Teng found his stroke from beyond the arc, absorbed contact whenever he got to the rim, and drew fouls repeatedly. He also showed tremendous maturity in passing to Kyle Neypes for the game-winning shot after being double-teamed.

He finished with 23 points in Team B-3's second game, assuring his squad of the top seed in the mini-tournament set for Tuesday.

"I think I'm prepared," said Teng. "(I'm) physically and mentally prepared."

"I'm working hard and preparing for this draft," he added.
