MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) Rhenz Abando will stay in University of Santo Tomas (UST), after it was confirmed that the athletic swingman was being recruited by at least one other UAAP school.

The Varsitarian reported Thursday afternoon that according to head coach Aldin Ayo, "Abando will stay in UST."

Sources earlier confirmed to ABS-CBN News that at least one other UAAP school has been recruiting Abando, even as the Season 82 men's basketball tournament is in progress.

Abando is averaging 11.8 points per game for the Growling Tigers this year.

He was benched by Ayo in their game against University of the Philippines last Wednesday, with Abando in street clothes behind the UST bench.

Afterward, Ayo offered no explanation for the rising star's benching.

Speaking to the Varsitarian, Ayo confirmed that Abando was being recruited by other UAAP schools, a move that he called "very unethical."

He also expressed his belief that the other teams are trying to distract the Tigers "on and off the court."

Their efforts were for naught, however, as Abando remained committed to UST. Ayo said that Abando is in UST "to play and study, establish his name in the UAAP."

Abando is expected to play against National University on Sunday.
