MANILA -- Fans of rival schools Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University took to social media as the first round of UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament reached fever pitch last weekend.

Despite the heated on-court battle, which was won by Ateneo, the atmosphere online stayed positive -- at least on Twitter.

Not surprising, players from the two schools have dominated Twitter conversations so far.

"The UAAP community has been using Twitter to share their insights on the games in real time," Twitter said in a statement released Monday.

Here are the top 5 players who have caught the interest of Twitter fans this year, according to the website.

1. Prince Rivero

The Rivero brothers of La Salle dominate the court week by week, but Prince earned the title of being the most talked about UAAP Season 80 basketball player on Twitter. "His assists and sweet moves on the court proved that he is a valuable part of the team. His impressive shot during the last 25 seconds of their game against the NU Bulldogs solidified the Archers’ victory," Twitter said. Photo from @TeamUyRivero on Twitter

2. Thirdy Ravena

Following the footsteps of brother, Ateneo superstar Kiefer Ravena, Thirdy is making a name for himself as one of UAAP’s most popular athletes. "Ravena has been dropping some incredible stunts this season like his two-handed dunk during their match against the UE Red Warriors," Twitter said. Photo from Ravena's Twitter page

3. Brent Paraiso

Brent Paraiso was warmly welcomed to La Salle in 2016. Coach Aldin Ayo immediately saw potential in Paraiso and this year, he’s back on the court, better than ever. "He earned the respect and admiration of Twitter fans every time he would get on the court," Twitter said. Photo from @asgreenasitgets on Twitter

4. Aljun Melecio

La Salle's Aljun Melecio wowed the crowd, especially during opening week. "Teammate Ben Mbala’s absence was not felt for Melecio’s efforts during their game against the FEU Tamaraws. His 29 points, 6-rebounds, 2-assists, and 2-steal game made him the 4th most talked about #UAAPSeason80 basketball player on Twitter," the website said. Photo from @droxyyyy on Twitter

5. Kib Montalbo

"Kib 'Man of Steal' Montalbo, is having a fantastic year. Despite having a rough start into the season, the team captain was able to bounce back and lead the team to victory against the different universities," Twitter said of the La Salle captain. Photo from @riccisquadCVT Twitter
