MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion De La Salle University secured the first Final 4 spot in the UAAP Season 80 women's table tennis tournament on Sunday at the UP CHK Gym.

The Lady Paddlers defeated National University (NU), 3-0, and Far Eastern University (FEU), 3-1. They earlier defeated University of the Philippines, 3-0, in their first match of the second round on Saturday.

Now unbeaten in 10 ties, La Salle also stayed on course for an outright passage in the best-of-three Finals.

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tigresses, who placed second behind the Lady Paddlers in the first round, rebounded from last Saturday's 2-3 loss to the Lady Tamaraws with 3-0 shutout wins over the Lady Warriors and the Lady Maroons for a 8-2 card.

Meanwhile, defending men's champion UST solidified its hold of the top spot after victories over University of the East, La Salle, and NU via identical 3-1 scores.

The Growling Tigers extended their winning streak to nine after a season-opening defeat to the Bulldogs.

Running second in men's is NU, which after its loss to UST Saturday turned back Adamson University and FEU in succession via similar 3-1 scores.

Action resumes on Wednesday with the morning session at 8 a.m. and the afternoon ties at 1 p.m. at the same Diliman venue.
