Adamson University faces an uncertain future in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament next year after top hitter Jema Galanza went down with a harrowing right ankle injury Monday.

The Queen Falcon was rushed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center after sustaining a broken ankle in the third set of Adamson’s 25-19, 25-20, 25-17, victory over College of St. Benilde in Group B of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Head coach Air Padda was at a loss for words during the post-match interview of the Lady Falcons’ fourth win in as many outings.

“I mean… I don’t… I think she done for the season (PVL),” said Padda, whose squad clinched a spot in the best-of-three semifinals.

“I was trying to replay in my head what happened, I didn’t even see her go down, I didn’t see if she tripped over her own feet or she tripped on somebody else’s but her ankle was completely separated,” she added. “So there’s definitely a bone, a major, a fracture, I think it’s broken.”

Galanza broke her ankle after attempting a block in the third with the Lady Falcons up, 5-0. She was howling in pain and her teammates stunned with the awkward angle of her right foot.

The Adamson senior player according to Padda could miss her fifth year with the Lady Falcons in the UAAP.

“This season was gonna be hers, she wanted to leave Adamson on a best note possible so it’s really unfortunate that she went down,” said Padda of her open spiker.

“I don’t know what’s gonna happen (in the future). I don’t know (in the UAAP), God I hope so (she can play),” the mentor added. “But an injury like that, I’m not sure.”

Adamson is looking to return in the UAAP Final Four for the first time since Season 76.

The Lady Falcons are showing a lot of promise with the inclusion of Eli Soyud, who transferred from De La Salle University, and the return of setter Fenela Emnas and Mylene Paat.
