MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) Jerrick Ahanmisi came up big to power Adamson University past University of the East (UE), 91-80, in the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Ahanmisi went 10-of-18 from the field to finish with 28 points, as the Soaring Falcons booked their second straight win in the tournament to improve to 2-1.

The Red Warriors, meanwhile, dropped to 0-3.

"Well, it's the third game. I think we're really struggling right now, chemistry-wise," said Adamson coach Franz Pumaren. "We're still trying to search for the right combination of chemistry."

"Hopefully this game can really help us adjust in the next remaining games," he added. "Of course, you have to give credit to UE, they really played well. I think this is one of their best games the last three games."

The Falcons were in control for most of the game but never completely put the Red Warriors away until the final two minutes of the contest. They were ahead, 82-69, off a lay-up by Lenda Dounga when UE went on a run that made it a 7-point game, 82-75, with still 2:47 left.

Rey Suerte, the transferee from the University of the Visayas, was at the forefront of the rally, hitting the transition bucket that capped their run.

Adamson simply had too many options, however. A split at the line by Val Chauca silenced UE, and Ahanmisi came up with a nifty lay-up before Dounga completed a three-point play for an 88-75 lead with 1:37 to play.

The Red Warriors faded away from there.

"I don't think we're at the best that we can play yet," said Ahanmisi, who played his best game of the season. "I think we're still gonna get there, in time. But today was a really good win for us."

Jerom Lastimosa added 16 points and 6 assists for Adamson, while Chauca had 13 and Douanga -- the hero of their triumph over National University -- had 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Suerte finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the Red Warriors, keeping them in the game with his aggressive drives in the third quarter. Jed Mendoza added 17 points and 4 assists before fouling out late.

The scores:

ADAMSON 91 -- Ahanmisi 28, Lastimosa 16, Chauca 13, Douanga 11, Fermin 5, Bernardo 4, Camacho 4, Magbuhos 4, Orquez 4, Yerro 2, Flowers 0, Manlapaz 0, Mojica 0, Zaldivar 0.

UE 80 -- Suerte 20, Mendoza 17, Apacible 15, Conner 13, Manalang 5, Tolentino 4, Abanto 3, Antiporda 3, Beltran 0, Cruz 0, Sawat 0.

Quarter scores: 19-21, 44-38, 66-57, 91-80
