Veteran point guard RR Garcia has plenty to offer Rain Or Shine, says head coach Caloy Garcia after it was revealed that the former TNT guard played with the Elasto Painters in a tune-up game this week.

Garcia, the No. 6 pick in the 2013 PBA rookie draft, has not played since being placed on the inactive list by TNT KaTropa, but his contract with them expired at the end of August. At that point, Rain Or Shine invited him to join their practices.

Rain Or Shine coach Garcia has received good reviews of their new point guard from his deputy, Chris Gavina, after the Elasto Painters played Phoenix in a tune-up on Thursday.

"He's OK," said Garcia. "Siguro, matagal na siya nawala, but based on how he was in practice he looks good kasi nagje-gel siya . . . He looks good."

Garcia said the former San Miguel Beer point guard can provide leadership in their backcourt, something Rain Or Shine lacked in previous conferences.

"I think he’s been an experienced player, he’s been a winner. Maybe with us, maybe yun ang kulang din namin the last conference," said the coach. "At the end, we needed the leadership."

"So hopefully, despite him not playing for I don’t know, two conferences ba? Three? But what I’ve seen with him lately is parang hindi naman siya nawalan ng laro eh. I think it’s just an opportunity just to get back," he added.

Garcia, who is serving as Yeng Guiao's deputy in Gilas Pilipinas in the 2019 FIBA World Cup in Beijing, cannot confirm if they are signing RR to the Elasto Painters yet, however.

"When I get back I’ll try to talk to management and let’s see if we can work out things," he said.
