MANILA - As one of the most prestigious collegiate leagues in the country opened a new chapter, UAAP host school Ateneo de Manila University unveiled new medals and trophies made to symbolize respect for the environment and the quest for peace.

During the opening ceremonies of the UAAP Season 82 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Ateneo President Jett Villarin SJ showed the new medals and trophies, which were made from recycled plastic from Taal, Batangas and bullet casings recovered from Marawi.

Villarin said that besides recognizing the efforts of winning athletes, the Season 82 tokens also symbolized victory for the league's partner communities as well.

"The trophy and medal might be yours if you win in the competition but you will also win this for the community in Marawi, in Taal. They made your trophies and medals out of recycled materials," Villarin said.
