KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Carlo Biado displayed poise under pressure to turn back Vietnam's Duong Quoc Hoang in the finals of the men's 9-ball event in the 29th Southeast Asian Games at KLCC Hall 4 here.

Biado was masterful early as he ran out to a 4-0 lead in the race-to-9 affair.

Duong managed to trim the deficit to three after pouncing on a rare Biado error to win the 13th rack, 5-8.

But with the chance to secure the gold medal, Biado broke well in the 14th rack and proceeded to run it out.

It is Biado's first gold medal in 9-ball singles, having won silver previously as well as a gold in doubles.

The Philippines dominated the 9-ball event in Kuala Lumpur, with Chezka Centeno and Rubilen Amit winning gold and silver in the women's event, respectively.
