MANILA, Philippines -- Even torrential rains that flooded Metro Manila could not stop the avid supporters of Barangay Ginebra from celebrating their recent triumph in the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Around 1,500 members of the barangay packed the Metrotent Convention Center in Pasig City on Sunday afternoon, where they partied with the Gin Kings and the team’s coaching staff.

It was one of the celebrations planned for Barangay Ginebra and its supporters following the Gin Kings’ victory in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals over sister team San Miguel Beer.

“I’m so happy that you all came,” said coach Tim Cone, who annexed his 21st title in the PBA after their six-game conquest of the Beermen last week.

“I am so proud to be the coach of Ginebra. I wish that all the coaches in the world could be the coach of Ginebra for at least one day just so they can experience how happy I am to be the coach of Ginebra,” he added.

“It's not just at the games pero every day. Every day I see Ginebra fans who are always so friendly, they come up to me. I love you guys, I really love you guys.”

Cone also credited the Ginebra fans for helping the team recover from a 1-5 start in the Commissioner’s Cup and pushing them all the way to the finals. “We are here because you are here for us,” he said.

The fans, some of whom arrived at the venue at 6:30 a.m. just to secure a spot, reserved their loudest cheers for much-loved import Justin Brownlee and Finals Most Valuable Player Scottie Thompson.

Brownlee, the Best Import of the conference, even spent a few seconds taking pictures with the barangay before returning to the stage where he professed his love to their supporters.

“Mahal ko kayo,” the import said to thunderous applause.
