MANILA, Philippines – Alaska forward Calvin Abueva, voted in as a starter for the North All-Star team, was forced to miss the 2016 PBA All-Star Game due to illness.

Abueva was introduced as part of the starting line-up but did not run out of the Araneta Coliseum tunnel like his All-Star teammates, leading fans to wonder where "The Beast" was.

According to Alaska assistant coach Jeffrey Cariaso, Abueva wanted to play but was simply too sick to do so.

"He was in the hospital yesterday, sick," Cariaso said in on Twitter. "As much as he wanted to be there, hindi n'ya lang talaga kaya."

A report by Snow Badua said Abueva was suffering from chronic tonsillitis and dehydration, and is still confined at a hospital.

Abueva was set to make his fourth consecutive All-Star appearance. He has appeared in the showcase event every year since entering the PBA.

Rain or Shine's Gabe Norwood replaced Abueva in the North All-Stars' starting line-up.
