MANILA, Philippines – Cignal HD is not resting on its laurels after winning the 2019 Spikers' Turf Reinforced Conference.

Instead, the team is already eyeing a double championship when they compete in the Open Conference next month.

For coach Dexter Clamor and ace spiker Marck Espejo, their triumph in the Reinforced Conference augurs well for their campaign in the midseason tournament, which starts on August 20.

The HD Spikers completed a two-game sweep of Go For Gold-Air Force to regain the crown they last won in 2017. It was their fourth crown overall in the Spikers' Turf.

"One week rest muna kami to celebrate, mag-enjoy muna kasi grabe 'yung pinagdaanan namin ngayong conference," said Clamor, who won his first-ever Spikers' Turf title after taking over as head coach from Oliver Almadro this year.

"After a week, trabaho na ulit, kaya sana makuha nga namin," he added.

The HD Spikers do have some concerns heading into the second conference, however, as they might miss key players to its roster. Several Cignal players are set to play for their respective collegiate teams in the Open Conference.

"Sana buo pa rin 'yung team," said Clamor. "May mga players kasi kami na collegiate pa rin and 'yung mother team nila kasali rin. So sana makausap namin 'yung mga coaches nila para makumpleto pa rin 'yung lineup namin."

"Tingin ko basta buo pa rin kami, kaya naming mag-back-to-back champions," he added.

Espejo will return for another tour of duty, along with fellow national team members Rex Intal and Peter Torres.

A total of 24 teams will see action in the Open Conference.
