MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion Petron recovered its form, overpowering a young Amy's side 25-18, 25-10, 22-25, 25-12 in the 2016 Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.

Coming off a straight-sets loss to RC Cola-Army in its previous game, Petron got right back on the winning track to solidify its grip on the second spot with a 4-1 win-loss card, just behind Army (5-0) and F2 Logistics (4-0).

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas, Frances Molina, and Bernadeth Pons led the charge for Petron, who nevertheless slowed down in the third set before finishing off the young Spikers from Perpetual Help in the fourth to claim the victory.

Pontillas had 12 points on nine kills and two blocks, while Molina scored 10 of her 12 points via attacks. Pons had a solid all-around game, scoring 11 points that included four aces and a block.

The Tri-Activ Spikers cruised in the first two sets but took a breather in the third as George Pascua fielded in his second stringers in a crucial stretch of the frame.

A 22-18 advantage slipped away for Petron as they committed attack and reception errors. Amy's Lourdes Clemente, meanwhile, scored on a block to give her team a 23-22 lead, and an attack error by CJ Rosario put Amy's at set point.

Jhona Rosal put an exclamation point on a long rally as she scored on a drop ball to secure the third set for Amy's.

"Losing a set is part of the game," Pascua said. "That loss allowed us to test our second six so they can easily adjust to the game situations when we go to the semifinals."

Petron reasserted control in the fourth set, with Far Eastern University captain Remy Palma providing a boost on offense with 10 points. They took a 16-9 lead into the second technical timeout and the advantage swelled to ten points, 21-11, en route to victory.

"This win means a lot to us, especially since we're coming off a loss," Pascua said. "I just told them that we have to follow our game plan and maintain our killer instinct, and we'll never go wrong."

Clemente had a team-high seven points, three of which came on blocks.

Amy's drops to 0-5 in the tournament.
