The WWE has announced that it has reinstated the legendary Hulk Hogan into its Hall of Fame, following a three-year suspension.

Hogan was suspended in July 2015 following a series of controversies, including the leak of a sex tape where the wrestler was heard making racist comments.

The WWE decided to give Hogan a second chance, following his "numerous public apologies and volunteering to work with young people, where he is helping them learn from his mistake," the company said in a statement.

"These efforts led to a recent induction into the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Alumni Hall of Fame," it added.

Hogan, 64, was backstage during WWE's Extreme Rules pay-per-view at Pittsburgh on Sunday (Monday in Manila). He revealed in a tweet that he was able to meet with the WWE Superstars and expressed his gratitude for the support he received.

"I've been praying for this day, and I finally feel like I made it back home," Hogan said.

Hogan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
