Will the Kings be able to take all the way? PBA Media Bureau

MANILA -- Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone hopes the Gin Kings will be able to maintain their laser-like focus now that they are in the semifinal stage of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Their 104-90 win over the Meralco Bolts Wednesday was the Gin Kings’ seventh straight victory since kicking off the midseason conference with a woeful 1-5 start.

“We're playing really well (right now) I have to admit,” Cone said after Ginebra completed a two-game sweep of Meralco in their best-of-three quarterfinals duel.

“(But) the more you win, the less you focus. When you're losing, you're trying to get out of a losing streak, you have a tendency to a real razor sharp focus. But when you're winning for a while, your focus starts to dissipate.”

This is why Cone said they can not afford to rest even while waiting for the winner in the quarterfinals pairing between Rain or Shine and GlobalPort.

Cone warned that it's going to be tougher to keep winning at this stage of the competition.

“Coming into the semis with a 7-game win streak is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Blessing 'cause we got the momentum and we're playing well. Curse because at some point you gotta come down the mountain, we'll see how long we'll stay on top of the mountain,” he said.

“So we're in good streak right now and we'll just gonna go with it for as long as we can.”
