MANILA -- Justin Brownlee fired 36 points on Wednesday night as Barangay Ginebra made it two in a row against Meralco to march to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Gin Kings won, 104-90, against the Bolts to end their best-of-three quarterfinals showdown and clinch a semis berth.

Ginebra overhauled a 12-point deficit with a mighty effort in the second quarter, then put up a 19-point lead and never looked back.

Brownlee also popped in 9 assists 6 rebounds, while Greg Slaughter came off the bench with 14 points.

LA Tenorio, who came up with a crucial three late in the fourth, finished with 11 markers.

The Bolts actually got as close as 6 points, 81-87, midway in the fourth period when Chris Newsome orchestrated a 10-0 run.

But Tenorio banged in a trey from the baseline followed up by a vicious slam by Brownlee to quell Meralco’s uprising.

“They brought a big lead down to six very quickly so we ran our heels until LA made the shot. It was a well-challenged shot, too. It wasn't wide open,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said after the game, while breathing a sigh of relief.

“Now we're through, that's good news and we get to watch Rain or Shine against global tomorrow (Thursday) and we'll start preparing and hopefully we get to the next phase after all.”

The Kings are now riding on a seven-game winning streak after their woeful 1-5 start in the midseason tourney.

But Cone sees it as a double-edged sword.

“Coming into the semis with a seven-game win streak is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Blessing ‘cause we got the momentum and we're playing well. Curse because at some point you gotta come down the mountain. We'll see how long we'll stay on top of the mountain."
