Rain or Shine's Denzel Bowles looks to score against Columbian's Lester Prosper. PBA Media Bureau.

MANILA – The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters refused to drop a second consecutive overtime game, outlasting Columbian Dyip 88-86 in the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Sunday at the Batangas City Coliseum.

Denzel Bowles bucked a woeful performance at the free throw line to finish with 29 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists, as the Elasto Painters bounced back from their brutal collapse to NorthPort last Wednesday.

Rey Nambatac scored 10 points, including the go-ahead lay-up off a superb out-of-bounds play with two seconds left in overtime.

The Elasto Painters snapped a four-game losing streak against the Columbian franchise, and improved to 3-3 in the Commissioner's Cup. The Dyip, meanwhile, dropped their third straight game and now have a 1-6 win-loss record.

"I was just trying to focus, and I'm just happy I could fight through it," said Bowles, who revealed that he played the game while recovering from a stomach virus.

"We fight. You know, we're very upset about last game and it was almost deja vu again but we fought through, and it was a great team win," he added.

Rain or Shine was coming off a 107-105 setback to NorthPort, which saw them squander a 25-point lead in the fourth quarter. This time around, they led 81-78 with 24 seconds to go in regulation, as Bowles could only make one of two free throws off a foul by Lester Prosper – thus leaving the door open for the Dyip.

It appeared as though ROS would escape with the win in regulation, as Bowles got a hand on Glenn Khobuntin's three-point attempt. But Columbian retained possession, and Rashawn McCarthy knocked down a difficult triple with 1.1 ticks left to knot the count and send the game to overtime.

Columbian led 86-84 in overtime off a Prosper hook shot, before Bowles trimmed the deficit with another split at the line. Beau Belga also made one of two free throws with 36 seconds left to tie the game.

The Dyip squandered a golden opportunity to take the lead when rookie guard CJ Perez drove strong to the hoop, only to muffle his lay-up. On the other end, he broke up a pass by Bowles to Javee Mocon inside the post, but the Elasto Painters retained possession with some four seconds to go.

That proved to be enough time for the Elasto Painters as Nambatac wriggled free for the go-ahead bucket off an inbound pass by Gabe Norwood.

Columbian had one last shot to tie the game, but Bowles forced Prosper into a turnover as time expired.

"We're a good team. We just had some bad little losses, and I just feel like I'ma give this team all I have, and that's all I can do," said Bowles.

Prosper had 26 points and 15 rebounds, while Perez had 12 points and 10 boards in a losing effort. McCarthy scored 15 points, going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

The Elasto Painters gutted out the win despite going 19-of-39 at the free throw line, with Bowles making only 7 of his 21 charities.
