The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) commissioner's office took offense to Ray Parks Jr.’s verbal swipe at the league and warned the Mandaluyong El Tigre star that a similar act would be dealt with more severely if repeated.

In a letter addressed to Parks, league commissioner Kenneth Duremdes reminded the star forward, who was affected by El Tigre’s 74-86 loss to the Muntinlupa Cagers in the Datu Cup inaugurals on Tuesday, that being part of the league means he has to follow a code of conduct.

Parks has since apologized for his harsh criticism.

"While it's true that everyone can express their opinion, please bear in mind that you are now part of the MPBL family, hence, as a player, you need to abide by the league rules and regulations. You are now representing MPBL," added Duremdes.

Right after El Tigre's defeat to the Angelis Resort-backed Cagers, Parks blasted the officiating and the league in general.

“I’ll be honest, they don’t want me in this league,” Parks told sportswriters in the post-game interview. “First time I’ve ever seen in my life, four offensive fouls. I attended the orientation, I know what the foul is.”

“I’m taking it as a challenge. They don’t want me here. It’s my home. I enjoyed playing in front of the crowd as much as I could. But at the end of the day, it’s just a stepping stone for me,” Parks added.

Duremdes denied that the MPBL was singling out Parks.

Fact is, Duremdes, who’s used to star treatment himself being the 1998 PBA MVP, said he was excited to see Parks in action as he boasts impressive credentials being two-time MVPs in the UAAP and the ASEAN Basketball League. In addition, Parks also saw action in the NBA G League.

According to Duremdes, life will indeed be hard for Parks in the MPBL as other players are challenged just to be playing against him.

Duremdes, a member of the PBA’s original 25 greatest players list, hopes to see Parks unravel his full potential in El Tigre’s succeeding games while at the same time, serving as role model outside the playing court.

"We hope to see the best from you — be it inside the court or outside of it," added Duremdes.

The 6-foot-4 Parks, son and namesake of the late PBA seven-time best import Bobby, plays again on June 21, when El Tigre tangles with the Zamboanga Valientes.
