The Philippines national women's team defeated the Czech Republic 15-14 in overtime on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup in Mongolia.

Angelica Marie Surada scored the winning basket to lift the Filipinas, who saw a 5-point lead late in regulation go up in smoke at Sukhbaatar Square in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar.

The Philippines finished the preliminaries with a 3-1 record, which assured it of second place in Pool C and a berth in the next round.

The top 2 teams in each of the four 5-team brackets advance to the last 8.

The Filipinas, whose lone loss came at France's expense, next face top seed China on Friday, June 7.

The other members of Team Philippines are Camille Izabel Clarin, Ella Patrice Fajardo and Karl Ann Pingol.

With the game knotted at 13-all against the Czech Republic, Surada broke the deadlock with a follow-up basket off her own miss.

Pavlína Tabačková leveled the score on a free throw after a foul by Clarin.

On the final possession, Surada secured victory with a bucket similar to her previous one, a recovery after her shot was blocked.

In 3x3 basketball, the game clock is switched off in overtime and the first team that scores 2 field goals wins.

It would've been a less nerve-racking win by the Filipinas had they
finished the job in regulation.

A 2-pointer by Clarin gave her team a 13-8 lead with 2:34 remaining.

But Sára Kocourková scored in the paint and drilled a 2-pointer, and Tabačková buried one from behind the arc at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
