FIBA U19 World Cup: AJ Edu ready to join Batang Gilas preparation for Greece tilt

AJ Edu arrived in the country this week to join the Philippines men's national under-19 basketball team preparing for the FIBA U19 World Cup, which begin later this month.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the sport's national governing body, announced the development on Facebook Wednesday, June 5.

Edu's listed height is 6-foot-10, according to University of Toledo, the US NCAA Division 1 school for which the 18-year-old plays.

The Filipinos, expected to also tap 7-footer Kai Sotto for the U19 World Cup, are bunched with Argentina, Russia and host Greece in Group C of the tournament to be held in Crete, from June 29 to July 7.

The Philippines advanced to the Cup after landing in the semifinals of the Asian qualifiers in Bangkok, last year.

In Thailand, Edu averaged 14.2 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks, playing 29.1 minutes in 6 games. All those averages were team-highs.
