MANILA, Philippines – Former National University (NU) star Jaja Santiago is set to take her talents to Japan.

A couple of months after ending her UAAP career by winning the Most Valuable Player trophy, Santiago went to Japan for a tryout and was eventually tapped by a club team.

The development was confirmed by her older sister, Diane Santiago, who nevertheless said they cannot divulge any other information.

Santiago herself said on Twitter that they are waiting for an official press release from her club team.

However, she expressed her gratitude for the support she received and welcomed the new opportunity.

Santiago, who plays for Foton in the Philippine Superliga (PSL), is finally getting the chance to spread her wings outside of the Philippines after turning down several opportunities over the years.

She was memorably recruited by University of California, Los Angeles as a 15-year-old but turned down the opportunity. She was also offered a chance by Thailand's Bangkok Glass ahead of her final playing year in NU but opted to fulfill her duties with the Lady Bulldogs.

Santiago follows the footsteps of former Ateneo de Manila University superstar Alyssa Valdez, who played as an import in Thailand and Chinese-Taipei, as well as five-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo who will play for Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler, also in Japan, later this year.
