The Senate on Tuesday honored Carina Dayondon for being the first Filipina to conquer the 7 Summits, the tallest peaks in each of the 7 continents.

Dayondon “displayed the brilliance and excellence of Filipinos despite insurmountable odds that brings immense pride and honor to the country,” said Senate Resolution 985, which was filed by Sen. Nancy Binay.

Dayondon, who ranks lieutenant junior grade in the Philippine Coast Guard, personally received the commendation from Senate President Vicente Sotto III and other senators on Tuesday.

Dayondon is the second Filipino to accomplish the feat after Romi Garduce in 2012. She was also one of the 3 Filipinas to reach the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, in 2007.

Scaling the 7 Summits is considered the premier mountaineering challenge in the world.

Dayondon climbed Denali in North America in 2006, Everest in 2007, Elbrus in Europe in 2013, Kosciusko in the Australian continent in 2014, Kilimanjaro in Africa in 2015, and Aconcagua in South Africa also in 2015.

She capped it off by reaching the summit of Mount Vinson Massif in Antartica on December 16, 2018.
