MANILA—Filipina mountaineer Carina Dayondon flew in to the country Sunday night after accomplishing the Seven Summits quest, which entails scaling the tallest peaks of each of the continents.
The last of the summits she reached was Mount Vinson in Antarctica on December 16.
Dayondon is the first Filipina to complete the feat, and the second Filipino to do so after Romi Garduce in 2012.
Dayondon, a lieutenant of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), arrived in Manila at 9:20 p.m., welcomed by Everest expedition leader Art Valdez, Dr. Ted Esguerra, and PCG spokesperson Capt. Armand Balilo.
Besides Vinson and Aconcagua (South America) in 2018, Dayondon summited Kilimanjaro (Africa) in 2015, Kosciusko (Australia) in 2014, Elbrus (Europe) in 2013, Everest (Asia) in 2007 and Denali (North America) in 2006. — Report from Jeffrey Hernaez, ABS-CBN News
