Team Philippines bowed to Australia in the quarterfinals. FIBA photo.

MANILA ā€“ The Filipinas' campaign in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup ended in the quarterfinals, where they bowed to Australia 21-16 on Sunday afternoon in Changsha, China.

It took Australia 8 minutes and 29 seconds to beat the Philippines, with Alice Kunek tallying 13 markers.

Still, it was a valiant effort for the Filipinas who needed to go through the qualifying draw to make it to the group round.

Veteran shooter Janine Pontejos paced the Philippines with 8 points, and again wowed the crowd with a nifty pass to a cutting Afril Bernardino.

Ultimately, however, the Filipinas ran out of steam down the stretch against Australia.

Bernardino finished with 5 points in the loss while Jack Animam had 2, and Clare Castro scored 1 point.
