MANILA -- The De La Salle University Green Archers gun for their fourth win in five outings when they take on winless Arellano University in the 3:15 p.m. match of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan on Thursday.

La Salle has drawn steady firepower from Justine Baltazar (13.8 points and 11.5 rebounds), Andrei Caracut (12.0 points), and Encho Serrano (10.5 points). The Green Archers are scoring 74.0 points per game while holding foes to 67.3 points; second best in the tournament behind San Beda University, which surrenders 64.5 markers a match.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, also have a trio of double-digit scorers, including the returning Kent Salado, Rence Alcoriza, and transferee Justin Araña who are each posting 13.5 points per game. The problem of Arellano is on the defensive end where they are giving up a league-high, 81.5 points per game.

Outside Araña (11.5 rebounds) and Salado’s (5.0 boards), the Chiefs are getting creamed on and off the boards.

In the other seniors game at 1:30 p.m., the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers, who have impressed in their first two matches (though for losses) and were blown out by National University (NU) in their third outing, go up against the improving Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals.

JRU has displayed a frenetic trapping defense under first-year head coach Louie Gonzales led by the exciting Louise Delos Santos who is putting up 14.0 points per game, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.

EAC also under first-year head coach Oliver Bunyi who was a former assistant with the Smart Gilas squad under Rajko Toroman has done wonders for his team. At 1-2, they defeated a loaded NU team and nearly upset Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Bunyi counts on Jethro Mendoza, Marwin Taywan, JP Maguliano, and JC Luciano to carry their load.

Meanwhile, the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup matches scheduled for Friday, May 24, have been re-scheduled for Saturday, May 25.
