Network shutdown is not helping, the volleyball star said

Michelle Gumabao on Friday bared her thoughts about missing volleyball amid the COVID-19 pandemic in a letter she wrote that was posted on an Instagram account containing player messages.

The Creamline player acknowledged that “volleyball is and has always been my number one love and passion” but she has no clue when she can play again.

“Who knew that there would be a day where the early 5:00 a.m. alarms, everyday training and monotonous routines would be so badly missed,” Gumabao wrote in a letter posted on @MatchpointCOVID.

“You tend to forget the reason you do what you do when you get caught in time and demand of it all. I forgot to stop and remind myself how thankful I am to be in the position I am because of you. I forgot to slowdown and be grateful for the game that gives me so much.”

The Dear Volleyball project by @matchpointcovid is a passion project of American former Cocolife import Taylor Milton and Courtney Felinski.

Gumabao said the absence of volleyball was made worse by the shutdown of ABS-CBN’s broadcast operations.

“No goodbyes to friends, to teammates, to coaches, to fans, to any of it. Everyone was sent home,” she added.

“Its emotional for all those volleyball players who have built a life around this sport.”
