World junior bantamweight champion Jerwin Ancajas has already arrived in Stockton, California two weeks before his fight date with Japan's Ryuichi Funai.

Ancajas was accompanied by coach Joven Jimenez and the rest of the team as they enter the final weeks of the their preparations.

"Masaya at excited sa laban si Jerwin," Jimenez said.

Ancajas will be making his seventh title defense against Funai on May 4 (May 5, Manila time).

The Filipino champion is walking around 123 pounds, just 8 pounds shy of the 115-pound junior bantamweight limit.

Jimenez said that at this stage of their training, Ancajas will only need to maintain his physical and mental condition.

"Light training na lang at ire-review din namin ang mga techniques at tactics na gagawin namin," he said.

Ancajas has practically trained in isolation, spending over a month training at the Marine Base in Ternate, Cavite before flying to Stockton.

He is determined to make up for his subpar performance in his previous bouts.

Ancajas fought fellow Filipino Jonas Sultan to a unanimous decision in May last year before settling for a split draw against Mexican Alejandro Santiago Barrios last September.

"Kailangan nilang maging mas aggressive this time kay Funai," said Jimenez.
