James Yap defended his decision to greet his son for his birthday despite criticism from his ex-wife, Kris Aquino: 'Wala naman atang masama doon.'

MANILA -- There's nothing wrong with greeting your own son for his birthday, said James Yap, after drawing the ire of his ex-wife, Kris Aquino.

The Rain or Shine star sparked the outrage of his former partner when he shared a short message for their son Bimby, saying that he misses him and that he'll always be his dad.

Aquino criticized his lack of sincerity, pointing out that he failed to stand up for Bimby when he was being bullied online for being "baklain," and for not supporting him financially.

In a short interview with Pep this Tuesday, Yap defended his decision to send out a birthday greeting for his estranged son.

"Birthday ng anak ko, grineet ko lang naman," he said. "Wala naman yatang masama dun kapag i-greet mo yung sarili mong anak. Tsaka na-miss ko siya. Wala naman atang masama dun --sariling tatay mag-greet sa sariling anak."

He refused to answer other questions about Aquino's scathing posts, saying that his focus right now is in his team's game in the ongoing PBA Commissioner's Cup this Friday.

Aquino lambasted Yap in a series of Instagram posts, saying that she's sick of his "half-truths" and "hypocrisy."

She said that she wanted to throw up after seeing Yap write things such as he misses his son "every day," he would "always" be there for him, and he'll forever be Bimby's "papa."

In one of her newer posts, Aquino admitted that she regrets focusing on the "few reasons" that made her frown during a week when she celebrated Bimby's birthday and signed a contract with Star Cinema for a new movie. :

Aquino and Yap were married in 2005 but separated five years later. Their marriage was annulled in 2012.
