Pinoy fighter gets $100,000, fight contract in ONE Warrior Series

A Bangkok-based Filipino was among the three fighters who topped Rich Franklin’s "ONE Warrior" reality series, pocketing $100,000 or around P5.2 million aside from getting a contract with ONE Championship.

Rockie Bactol turned in a spectacular performance, defeating opponent Mark Cuizon by first-round Americana in the Season 1 Finale of the series.

The 19-year-old is a Filipino martial arts prospect who lives and trains in Bangkok, who first discovered martial arts to learn self-defense after experiencing childhood bullying.

Other winners include South Korean fighters Woonkyum Kim and Daesong Park.

In the finale, Kim faced Sanjidul Islam, winning by first-round technical knockout, while Park beat Eto Kimihiro also by technical knockout.

Franklin's ONE Warrior Series is a talent search aimed at discover ingnew martial arts talents across Asia.

Franklin. a former middleweight champion, serves as the show’s host and travels across the Asian continent with co-host Jonathan Fong, searching for talent, experiencing local cultures, and testing their boundaries.

“This event just proved that scouting is not a perfect science… Congratulations to all three for earning their contracts in our first event, as well as JD Hardwick, Shahid Siddiqui and Faizan Khan on earning their Warrior Bonuses,” said Franklin.

“Our first season was an incredible success and was a terrific experience for myself and the entire ONE Warrior Series team. Looking forward to doing it all again in the coming months.”
