MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATED) Far Eastern University rose to a share of second place in the UAAP Season 80 women's volleyball tournament after walloping University of the East in straight sets on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Tamaraws booked a mostly straightforward 25-17, 25-15, 25-20 triumph over the Lady Warriors to hike their record to 9-4.

That put them in a tie with Ateneo de Manila University heading into their last game of the elimination round on Sunday against the National University.

A win over the Lady Bulldogs will give them at least a playoff for a twice-to-beat bonus in the Final 4.

"Sabi ko nga sa kanila kanina, one game at a time lang," said FEU coach George Pascua. "One step at a time lang. So next plan is NU."

"Sabi ko nga sa kanila, pag mas maganda ang laro namin, 'yung ine-aim namin na twice-to-beat, possible na makuha namin," he added.

FEU captain Bernadeth Pons finished with a typically superb all-around line of 13 points, 13 digs and 13 receptions, while Celine Domingo had 16 points.

Even though UE had ace libero Kath Arado in the fold, the Lady Tamaraws still scored 14 points off their serve in just three sets.

The Lady Tamaraws set the tone of the game by scoring the first six points of the opening set, and cruising to a 25-17 win after firing seven aces. They had an even more comfortable 25-15 triumph in the second, as Domingo asserted her might in the middle.

FEU roared to an 8-0 start in the third set, and still had a huge 22-14 advantage before its own errors and a few clutch hits from Shaya Adorador allowed UE to catch up.

But the Lady Tamaraws' lead was too big, and Jerrili Malabanan sealed the deal with an off-the-block hit to finish off the match in just an hour and 15 minutes.

The Lady Warriors dropped to 2-11 in the tournament. They have lost five matches in a row since winning back-to-back midway through the season.
