MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University (FEU) team captain Remy Palma is not yet ready for her collegiate career to end.

The Lady Tamaraws are in a must-win situation in the UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball tournament, as they need to defeat the University of the Philippines on Wednesday to keep their Final 4 hopes alive.

Palma, FEU's vocal, passionate leader, says she will do everything she can to make sure that her UAAP career will go on for at least one more game.

"Para sa akin, last playing year ko na ito, at ayaw kong matapos na magiging ganoon lang ang resulta," Palma said on Saturday, after helping the Lady Tamaraws nail a crucial 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 win over National University.

"Kailangan, mas paghirapan ko pa, ako ang manguna sa kanila, at ibigay ko na ang lahat, kasi huli ko na ito," she added. "Wala na akong ibang chance.

"Kailangan trabahuhin namin, kailangan ibuhos na lahat ng meron kami. Parang every game i-treat namin na last game na ng buhay namin."

[It's my last playing year, so I don't want it to end on a loss. I have to work harder, and I have to lead them and give it my all, because it's my last year. It's my last chance. We have to play every game as if it's our last game.]

Palma is relying on other veteran teammates, especially star spiker Bernadeth Pons, to help her in this mission. Pons is playing in her fourth year and thus has one more year of eligibility left, but she is as determined as her captain to bring FEU to the Final 4.

"Ayaw namin na matapos lang ang season namin na wala kaming marating," said Pons, the second leading scorer in Season 79 with 199 points through 13 games.

"Isa sa mga motivation namin na kailangan pag-igihan pa namin para makapasok kami sa Final Four," she added.

[We don't want our season to end on a low note. We want to reach the Final 4.]

The Lady Tamaraws are facing an equally desperate UP team, whose stellar start to the season has gone up in smoke. Initially the toast of the league after their 4-0 start, the Lady Maroons have since won only three games, and are coming off a straight-sets loss to University of Santo Tomas.

While Palma is the lone graduating player on FEU's roster, UP has three: former captains Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon, and libero Pia Gaiser, whose UAAP career ended when she suffered a knee injury in their last game of the first round.
