MANILA -- A lawyer and triathlete dubbed the "Pinoy Aquaman" commemorated the first Christian mass in the Philippines by swimming from Limasawa Island to Barangay Tangkaan in Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte.

Ingemar Macarine swam 10.34 kilometers nonstop and unassisted in four hours, 34 minutes.

Macarine said he wanted to commemorate the first Christian mass held 496 years ago in Limasawa, while also promoting clean seas and beaches.

"Thank you so much Gov. Damian Mercado, Board Member Lee Uy, Mayor Nilo Petracorta, Vmayor Melchor Petracorta, Mayor Hermenegildo Culpa, Vmayor Freiche Poblete, Philippine Coast Guard, Bantay Dagat, & my navigator Roel Catoto for the support. Encountered strong current & big waves during the swim," Macarine wrote in his caption.

In January, Macarine canceled his attempt to swim 12 kilometers from Camiguin Island to Balingoan, Misamis Oriental and back due to foul weather.

He has also previously swam 21 km in the United States from the famous Alcatraz Island to the shores of San Francisco in 2014.

Just last November, he swam 17.1 kms from Carlos P. Garcia in Bohol to Maasin City in Southern Leyte. - with a report from Jenette Ruedas, ABS-CBN News
