Several sports organizations in the Philippines announced on Thursday the suspension of games in light of the country's coronavirus crisis.

"Considering the current situation surrounding COVID-19 brought forward by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Department of Health (DOH) and the state of emergency declared by the President of the Philippines, will be postponing all local competitions in Luzon until April 18," the Philippine Rugby Football Union said in its official website.

Among the competitions directly affected are: 2020 JML Luzon Cup, PRFU Premiership Shield and Santos Knight Frank Junior Festivals.

"Philippine Rugby will continue to assess the effects and spread of the COVID-19 on a regular basis. Consistent assessment will determine if it is indeed safe to continue to host domestic Rugby competitions after April 18 in a safe and responsible manner," the PRFU added.

The Philippine Superliga, meanwhile, will also halt action.

"Upon careful assessment of the current situation and in consultation with the teams, all PSL matches on March 14, 2020 are hereby postponed," the PSL said in its official page.

"For the safety of all concerned, succeeding matches will depend on the official pronouncements relative to the state of public health emergency pursuant to Proclamation No. 922 issued by President Duterte due to Covid-19. We will regularly apprise you on the status of our games."

The National Basketball League moved its games to a latter date.

The league said its playoffs, Phase 2 games on Saturday between the Marikina Best Shoemakers and the Paranaque Aces, and Pasig El Pirata and Muntinlupa Emeralds will be now played on March 21 at Hoopla Gymnasium Angelis Resort.

Sunday’s quarterfinal pairings featuring the La Union Paower against the Cavite Ballers, and the Camsur Express versus the Nueva Ecija Besprens will now be held on March 22 at San Leonardo Gym in Nueva Ecija.

The WNBL opening ceremony and games are now scheduled on March 21 at Hoopla Gymnasium Angelis Resort.

Earlier, the PBA, the MPBL and collegiate leagues the NCAA and the UAAP have also adjusted their schedules as the COVID-19 worries grow.
